The Location of Ladle House

Ladle House is an Anasazi dwelling located in the Greenlee Parcel of Indian Camp Ranch, an archaeological preserve in southwestern Colorado just west of the town of Cortez.

Ladle House is situated in the heart of prehistoric Anasazi Indian country. Mesa Verde National Park, world-famous for its spectacular cliff-dwellings, is just 6 miles to the southeast. Smaller but just as beautiful are Hovenweep National Monument and Lowry Ruins, about an hour's drive to the north. Other outstanding examples of prehistoric Anasazi culture are visible at Chaco Canyon National Monument and Canyon de Chelly National Monument, which are located several hours' drive to the southeast and southwest, respectively.

Ladle House and Nearby Sites

Ladle House is one of nine sites in the Greenlee Parcel, and one of 209 sites in Indian Camp Ranch. Most of these sites are Anasazi in age, dating sometime between A.D. 1 and 1300. About one-half of the Anasazi sites are the remains of domestic houses, and the other half are the remains of various activity areas.
