In order to construct their kiva, the Anasazi had to complete four major tasks: (1) excavate a below-ground pit, (2) build interior masonry walls, (3) build an above-ground roof, and (4) finish the interior floor. After the people had used their kiva for some time, they found it necessary to engage in some minor remodeling.
